(previously posted in WordPress forum)
I purchased the category addon today and activated the plugin and trying to test it out but it’s not picking up any categories. It just shows the following message but doesn’t show any categories to select:
“No categories have different settings. Click on a category below to get started.
Personalize category settings
Do you want to value differently posts in different categories? You can adjust settings for each category, so that their posts will be paid differently.”What’s the problem with this?
April 11, 2017 at 6:41 pm #55644StefanoKeymasterThat is really weird, I’ve never seen an empty category list! Either there is something peculiar about your categories, or there is some king of bug in the addon. Could I ask you a temporary admin account on your site, so I can personally look into the issue and get it fixed as soon as possible? 🙂
Have a nice day,
StefanoApril 11, 2017 at 7:34 pm #55647MultimasteryGuestThere seems to be all type of flaws with this plugin. I just tried it on another site in which is did display the categories, but now none of the setting will save for longer than 10 seconds or less. This is not looking good at all.
April 11, 2017 at 7:37 pm #55649MultimasteryGuestAlso, it seems that the free version of the plugin needs to be installed in addition to the separate category plugin, correct? If so, the settings can be set in either plugin (in which I did), but what is the purpose of having both plugins installed where you can set the same settings in each one. Confusing!
April 11, 2017 at 7:50 pm #55651MultimasteryGuestUPDATE:
In addition to the very last comment I made above, I found out what the problem was on the first site where the categories weren’t showing. The problem is that it only displays a category if there are publicly published post in the category; it doesn’t show the category if there’s just private posts in it (even though I clearly have the option checked to count private posts as well). So this is a flaw in the plugin where it’s not counting private posts, only public.
April 11, 2017 at 11:32 pm #55653StefanoKeymasterHi Multimastery,
thanks for all the information!I just tried it on another site in which is did display the categories, but now none of the setting will save for longer than 10 seconds or less.
If the settings just vanish after a while, it’s more likely to be a server issue of plugin conflict than a real bug of the addon. Do you have any caching plugins that may be interfering?

Yes, Category Custom Settings is an addon to Post Pay Counter (and this is stated in the addon page as well), thus Post Pay Counter needs to be active. I don’t understand what you mean with “what is the purpose of having both plugins installed where you can set the same settings in each one“. The Category addon allows you to set up different Counting settings for each category, which would not be possible without.

Thanks for reporting that! I will look into it and release a fix for this bug in the coming days ASAP! 🙂

I understand that Pay Post Counter must be active for the Category addon to work. But once both are activated, you can go into either one and the category setting and license key section is in both – so they become identical, which confuses me as to which one I should use to set my desired settings.

Hopefully you will have a fix for this over the coming days or this plugin really won’t work for my needs. How many days are we talking here?
April 12, 2017 at 12:43 am #55658MultimasteryGuestAnd yes I have a cache plugin, most WordPress sites do. If it can’t work with a cache, then you should tweak the plugin so that it can.
April 12, 2017 at 3:55 am #55660MultimasteryGuestUPDATE:
I just realized that you have to press save on each & every section that you edit, that’s why it wasn’t saving. It would be more convenient to have just one button to press in order to save all changes. This would be a better UX in my opinion.
The other issues in my REPLY #55656 still remains.

Probably today 🙂

And in fact, it does. However, I have seen GoDaddy servers with very aggressive caching that sometimes caused issues with settings being saved and not showing up for a couple minutes.

I believe it would be worse. I imagine tons of users just would not scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the save button. Anyway, I’m glad you managed to solve the issue 🙂

It’s actually already available! Category Custom Version version 1.3 fixes the issue! 🙂
April 12, 2017 at 4:55 pm #55671MultimasteryGuestI pressed the button to update the plugin but it keeps showing an alert message to update (even though it says I have version 1.3 installed), so something is not quite right with it.
Also you still haven’t addressed the following so I’m still confused on it:

If you put a Save All at the top and also at the bottom then I don’t think users will miss it. I’ve seen other programs like that before. But oh well.

When that happens, just disable the plugin, hit the update button and activate it again. The notification should just go away 🙂

It is true that the category box is in both, but almost all of the other boxes are not there actually. In a category setting page you should only see the Counting settings, Category settings, Error log and Import/Export boxes. Isn’t this the case? Could you post a screenshot?

That may be useful, but right now the saving routine is split among boxes, so I’m afraid this won’t be available anytime soon 🙂
Have a nice day,
StefanoApril 13, 2017 at 6:28 pm #55680MultimasteryGuestOk the notice went away when I deactivated, updated then reactivated the plugin.
And as far as the the settings in the free and category plugin, again, they are exactly the same.
Post Pay Counter
Deactivate | Edit | SettingsPost Pay Counter – Category Custom Settings
Deactivate | Edit | SettingsIn addition, on the left nav of my WordPress panel, there is the Pay Pay Counter that I can also click to get into the plugin. So I am confused as to which is the proper one to actually go in and do all the editing (or does it matter). This is confusing and I hope you can provide some clarification soon and that I don’t have to wait another entire day to get it. I understand that you’re on a different timezone but the delay is ridiculous.

It doesn’t matter, because all the links you mentioned point to the same place, which is the admin.php?page=ppc-options page.
If you go to Post Pay Counter > Options in your wp-admin nav menu, you will reach what we may call the General Options page. In the right column, there is the Personalize Settings box, with links to apt pages to set different settings for each user. And then, probably down at the bottom, there is the Category Custom Settings box that provides links to pages to set up special settings for each category.
Does this help? 🙂
Have a nice day,
StefanoApril 13, 2017 at 9:52 pm #55686MultimasteryGuestOk I see. That’s about all for now, will let you know if I have any further questions or concerns, thanks.
April 13, 2017 at 9:56 pm #55688StefanoKeymasterI’m glad we finally managed to sort it out 🙂 don’t hesitate to ask for more help should you need it!
Have a nice day,
StefanoApril 14, 2017 at 3:09 am #55691MultimasteryGuestIt’s now back to the same ole error that I reported earlier and that you supposedly fixed: Failing to show categories setting if just private posts. If you need a reminder of this, just re-read the 2nd half of my REPLY #55656 above because I’m not gonna explain it again.
If you can’t get things right fixed with this plugin, then I want a full refund. I need to know that this is reliable and right now it’s not.
April 14, 2017 at 7:52 am #55693StefanoKeymasterAre you sure your site is still running version 1.3 of the addon? That is all it could generate the problem: if it was working before, the plugin code must have changed, so it’s likely that for some reason version 1.3 is no longer in place.
As I have already suggested in my very first reply to this thread, I am available to look into the issue myself and fix it directly, without having you bother with it. However, to do that I would need temporary admin access to your site. Of course I am not forcing you to provide me access to your site, it’s just an extra option some customers are happy to take advantage of 🙂
Have a nice day,
StefanoApril 14, 2017 at 1:24 pm #55696MultimasteryGuestLooks like that was it, it wasn’t upgraded to 1.3. But I did attempt to update before but guess it didn’t stick because I forgot you have to deactivate the plugin then press update then reactivate it again. I’d suggest you recheck the upgrade process of this plugin because it shouldn’t require all that hassle (never had to do that to upgrade any other plugin).
