How exactly does your plugin track stories because sometimes my articles may end up registering views under multiple URLs in Google Analytics because whoever the reader is shared it with an extra or missing character.

    E.g.

    http://www.website.com/123/article (10 views)
    http://www.website.com/123/article. (2 views)
    http://www.website.com/123/ (3 views)

Both URLs end up taking you to the same post, and in total they register 15 views, but are split between 10, 2, and 3. Does your plugin factor in for problems like this?

    Hi Bradley,
it should work just fine! πŸ™‚

If all URLs get you to the same post (and there’s no htaccess redirect), then all visits will be put together and make up a unique grand total.

    Have a nice day,

Ok great. So I just bought the plugin to work with Google Analytics. Let’s say I set my time period for “This Month”, does that mean it only tracks views collected for posts that were posted this month alone?

I’m glad to know you purchased the PRO version πŸ™‚

The date picker in the stats page only affects the posts displayed: posts published in the time range will be displayed, and others won’t. If you want to tweak the visits time, you should have a look at the two Analytics boxes in the Options page, there is inline documentation that should help you, but of course do ask for clarification if needed πŸ™‚

Ok I think I found it. Ideally I want to pay my writer XX dollars for the first 30 days of their posts going live, so I will set it to something like 30 days in the “Visits time limit for posts” box.

However, I may not pay them via the inbuilt PayPal option, so I’d like a way to correctly ascertain how much views they’ve gotten for manual payments.

Let’s say on July 31st, someone writes a post but then on August 1st-10th, they get 95% of their views. In theory, that post would be counting views from July 31st to August 29th.

If I chose to view “This Month” only, then that post from July which earned most of its views in August would not get counted in the stats. Right?

However I could set my viewing window to be July 1st to August 31st, but then every month going forward, I would end up double paying posts if I checked it manually.

How do I get around this?

Ok I think I figured it out. If I am paying monthly, I should let the month pass by and then view “Last Month” to get the correct figures as it will tabulate all views up to the 30 day mark (for any post that qualifies) regardless of the time frame and posts that get views this month will also be factored in even if it was posted last month.

    This will work.

However I could set my viewing window to be July 1st to August 31st, but then every month going forward, I would end up double paying posts if I checked it manually.

But this will work better! You only have to mark posts as paid when you pay them (no need to use PayPal, just the plain mark as paid feature), and old visits won’t be considered for future payments, nor posts that have already been paid.

It is not exactly your need, but I think this tutorial will give you a little more insight of how this method works: https://postpaycounter.com/set-up-an-effective-visits-payment-flow/

    Hello Stefano,

Please, I need serious support here. So I’ve published 5 posts on my website and initially set the basic pay to $5. However, I wanted to try how the plugin payments worked before handling any real outside payment. So I changed basic payment to $10 a few hours before I marked my profile(author account) as paid using the plugin feature. The result of that experimentation has been strange and alarming.

    1. The plugin on frontend didn’t reflect that any payment was made to that profile so the basic column still displays -> $50 despite having marked as paid and BONUS TOTAL PAYMENT DUE PAY all-> $0.

    2. However on the backend Basic -> $50 BONUS -> $0 TOTAL PAYMENT -> $25 DUE PAY all-> $0.

What’s odd on the backend is that it appears like the plugin only made half the payment and on the frontend, there don’t even appear to be any changes made to the account.

When I checked the Payment history I noticed the plugin had marked each post as though $10 was paid on each as it should, however, the changes is not reflected on the general stats.

I keep worrying that if this was a real-life situation and such thing had happened, I wouldn’t even know how much the user I paid has received in their Paypal account since the plugin is not giving me correct and accurate data. And the fact that the data stats on frontend and backend are conflicting.

The plugin won’t let me mark the remaining $25 as paid because it knows I already paid that, I guess that’s a good thing. But I still want the plugin to display accurate data. Am I missing something?

UPDATE: After I deleted the payment history.

    1. On backend Basic -> $50 Bonus->0 Total payment -> $25 Due Pay -> $25
    2. On frontend Basic -> $50 Due Pay -> $25

Backend and frontend now appear to show the same data. But I still can’t help but imagine what caused that issue. Now it claims I have paid $25 when before I deleted the history I saw that it marked $10 paid on each post so that should be $50 in my opinion.

    Hi there,
thanks for all the details. May I ask you screenshots as well, please. One of the frontend stats, one of the backend stats and one of your settings page?

    Have a nice day,
    Stefano

Okay, so could you please try uploading updated versions of both PPC and PPC PRO and see if the issue gets solved. I haven’t yet released them publicly, so you can download temporary zips from the following links:
    https://postpaycounter.com/post-pay-counter.zip
    https://postpaycounter.com/post-pay-counter-pro.zip

    Let me know!

    Hello Stefano,

I sent you the login info to access my site in order to get a clearer idea into the problem I’m faced with. But, you’ve neither responded nor suggest a solution?

    Hello Stefano,

I tried your suggestion. I first disabled all post-pay-counter plugins including the addons and then deleted post-pay-counter and post-pay-counter pro. So after I installed the update you sent me, the settings were completely shattered and I had to set my preferred options again in settings. Now, it shows (in backend – Total Payment $50; Due Payment $50) but there’s no checkbox to mark as pay nor the buttons that used to sit below stats to pay via PayPal. Maybe I’m not seeing those buttons and checkbox because I had already marked the post as paid and/or because I deleted the payment history while trying to fix the problem then, but then again, why does it say “Due Payment $50” doesn’t that imply that I still owe the user $50? although that’s me in this case, but it could practically be some other authors on the site, and I’m a little worried for that.

In the frontend, however, it keeps saying that:

    Showing posts for: This month
Your query resulted in an empty result. Try to select a wider time range!

Which I guess makes sense, since there are no new post published in this month october. But what if I want a specific user to see an all-time earning reports(i don’t mean the payment history, but the actual earned payment if user has not been payed in months) from the frontend and not just a view for the current months’ earnings. Any shortcodes attribute that can help?

    On a new NOTE:

I currently set the plugin to pay users a basic of $10 per post and nothing more. Now, lets say in the future I decided to increase payments on post to maybe $20 and set more options for people to earn, like on comments, shares, views etc.
Will the changes also affect the post I had already paid in past or just on new posts submitted? Because if it applies the payment options to post already paid in the past, that could mean having to pay a whole lot more than one can afford assuming there are already hundreds of posts published and paid for.

I tweaked your settings so that you have permissions to issue payments and the default stats time range is All time, check it out now πŸ™‚

All time is now the default choice even for the frontend stats πŸ™‚

No, it will not. In fact, I just did it to show you it works the way you expect: I paid your 5 posts for a total basic payment of $50, and then raised the basic payment to $20 per post. The total payment changed, but the due payment is still zero πŸ™‚

Hope this helps! Let me know!

    Have a nice day,
    Stefano
