Category custom settings is so close to what we need…but I want to make sure I’m on the right track.

    UserA
    – Already has custom author settings for written posts.
    – We want to be able to pay that author a flat fee for videos posted to the video category. BAM..you nailed it with Category Custom Settings.

However, UserA might get paid $150 for a video while UserB gets only $100.
Also, UserA is already on a custom setting for written posts.

Do I need to use the different role addon and create two user accounts with Contributor and Video Producer roles?
If we do that, can users within the Video role also get paid differently like PPC enables with normal posts?

    Hi Sam,
the constraint of having authorA and authorB earn different rates for the same category makes it tricky. I am not sure it is actually possible.

Do I need to use the different role addon and create two user accounts with Contributor and Video Producer roles?

You could, but you would still be unable to customize per role AND per category. No way to say “this role earns this much for this category and this other this other much for the same category”, unfortunately.

If we do that, can users within the Video role also get paid differently like PPC enables with normal posts?

When customizing role settings, authors can still have custom, per-user settings. However, if author settings are available, they hold preference with respect to role settings.

Thank you so much for your response.
I was thinking this was asking way too much.

I’m 99% certain you figured out how to answer my confusing question.
    A less complicated example is:

    Standard Rates
    – Post @ $0.15 per word
    – Video Post Category @ $75 per video

    ==== What I need ====
    Normal written post author override
    – Custom AuthorA @ $0.25 per word
    – Custom AuthorB @ $0.20 per word

Video Post Category with content creator override
    – Custom AuthorA @ $125 per video category post
    – Custom AuthorB @ $100 per video category post

However custom author settings supersede all other settings.

Do you have anything that can differentiate between post formats?
It seems like you may hit this issue with so much content being video or audio these days.

    Example:
Audio and Video: Standard rate for a podcast episode + per word for written content that goes with the podcast audio
Author override for a podcast post

    PPC is fantastic.
If you decide to enable standard and custom author rates for different post formats, I will buy that add-on.

Oh, I think i gave something for granted, or did not stress it enough: you cannot customize a category per author. This means that the following is not possible – authors cannot have custom settings for categories as well:

    – Custom AuthorA @ $125 per video category post
    – Custom AuthorB @ $100 per video category post

Do you have anything that can differentiate between post formats?

    No, there is not unfortunately.
